Callowie Poll Merino stud's SA and Vic clients were able to secure their picks for exceptional value for money at the annual auction at Lowan Vale, near Bordertown.
Passing in the first two lots was an ominous sign for Richard and Jacquie Halliday and their son Angus but the sale did find some momentum with lots 4 and 6 both making the $2600 equal highest price.
Both rams - which were sons of Poll Boonoke rams - ranked in the top 20 per cent on yearling clean fleece weight.
Long-time sale supporter Cove Station, Serviceton, Vic, bought the first of these heavy cutters - a 20.6 micron big barrelled ram, while PW Scown & Sons, Bordertown, bought lot 6 - an impressive figured ram carrying a 19.5M.
Westech Ag Kyle Livestock agent Stuart Kyle and Cove Station's Fleur Finlayson followed the sale closely, buying 10 rams for Cove Station for a $1240 average.
"They are ideally suited to our country- heavy cutting and easy care sheep," Ms Finlayson said.
MA Hannaford, buying through Elders Naracoorte, secured five rams for a $1000 average, paying to a $1600 high.
Mr Halliday said it was pleasing to receive feedback from clients that their flocks were achieving conception rates between 120-135 per cent and this was translating into live lambs.
"The people buying from us are having success with our sheep and coming back," he said.
Another four of the auction rams sold soon after.
Nutrien stud stock auctioneer Richard Miller said the sale represented "terrific value for money".
"They really are under rated sheep - the staple length and the wool cut on them is up there in the top per cent of SA studs I reckon but we were missing two or three buyers today," he said.
"The dry season has left a couple away that we know of."
Nutrien Bordertown and Elders Keith were joint selling agents.
